“Pilgrim’s Castle” is a Harlequin manga adaptation of a romance novel written by Violet Winspear. The manga version was drawn by Misuzu Sasaki, a manga artist who employs a light, airy style for the feminine characters, but also draws an excellent dark, brooding male figure. The plot of “Pilgrim’s Castle” is simple, but one that is a favorite among classic romance stories.
The main character, Yvain Pilgrim, is a poor maid who was traveling with her employers when their ship hit bad weather, resulting in a shipwreck. Yvain fell overboard and eventually washed up onto the shore of the Island of Lions, where the mysterious marquess Juan finds her. Juan takes her home and not only allows her to recuperate in his castle, but also offers Yvain the opportunity to stay with him and learn to be a noblewoman…
