Poetry – Holy Warriors

Holy Warriors
By: Maranda Russell

Holy warriors
learn a lesson
Their distorted agenda
rightly condemns
one righteous man
setting a fire
beyond their own
narrow audience –
but – to the best
of my knowledge –
this will be
a one-time exception.

Hi! I am an artist, author, and blogger who also happens to have Asperger’s Syndrome. I have won several awards and honors for my writings and artwork. I suffer from a few severe mental illness and chronic pain conditions (Depression, Anxiety, PTSD, Fibromyalgia, CFS/ME, Ehlers Danlos, Degenerative Disc Disease, etc.), which greatly affects my life and makes me want to advocate for others going through similar things. Other interests of mine include reading, writing, drawing, watching cartoons and movies, collecting toys, hanging out with my family, and annoying my 3 cats.

Just a whole bunch of weird gasp mouth open and furrowed eyebrows of concern. Which… can totally look like… “Fuck faces”. Haha.

    1. Poetry can be interpreted many ways, but the original intent behind this piece was to illustrate the times that holy warriors have gotten it wrong and persecuted the wrong people for the wrong reasons. However, I’m not opposed to the idea that those who want to do what’s right need to stand up for it right now, the world certainly needs some heroes. You just have to make sure you are in fact a hero and not a villain masquerading as a hero. Sometimes the line can be so thin.
