Hey everyone! The upper GI endoscopy is officially done! Luckily, the anesthesia worked great and I didn’t feel a thing until afterwards. They were running behind schedule so I had to wait a while to get into the procedure room, but once I got in there, the rest was easy. I woke up with a bad case of the hiccups, but that didn’t last too long.
The doctor said that the results looked pretty good. She did fix some scar tissue in there (I’m assuming from the acid reflux) and took a biopsy (mostly to check for celiac). The worst after-effect has been that when I ate lunch it hurt quite a bit to swallow food. Drinking hasn’t been too bad though. I grabbed a smoothie and some fruit and veggie juice on the way home, so I’m set for the rest of the night, even if it is hard to eat solid food.
I want to thank all of you for your kind thoughts and prayers for this appointment. I tend to get super anxious about anything I haven’t been through before and hearing your encouraging words and personal stories helps. I’m planning to take the rest of the day easy and just relax or maybe nap.
Hi Maranda Glad to hear the endoscopy went well. I have had 19 of these over the years. I had Barrett’s Esophagus which is cancer of the esophagus which was operated on back in 2000. They did FonDuplication surgery. They operated using long skinny tools and used part of my stomach and wrapped it around my esophagus. It actually put the cancer into remission ever since. In fact I had it checked in March the 19 th time and was told it had not came back and would not ever return and I did not have to come either. I am happy but it was scary but turned out awesome !

Maranda, delighted to hear everything went well. These type of tests naturally induce anxiety and stress in everyone.

Glad it went well and thank you for your update.
Don’t worry about being anxious as you were, when it’s something you have not had before
I would have felt the same.
Enjoy relaxing. I think that’s a good plan.
Hopefully eating wise, you will notice it will feel easier in the next few days.

That’s brilliant, Maranda! I’m so glad it went smoothly & it sounds positive with them dealing with some scar tissue while rummaging around in there too 😉 Did they say how long the biopsy results might take? I think you deserve lots and lots of rest and naps after this! Fingers crossed the soreness eases up soon too.
Caz xxxx

Not sure how long till I get the biopsy results. Maybe they won’t tell me till I schedule a follow-up.
