I never knew
the place
I hold in your heart
would be put up
for rent.
Eviction notice
at my feet,
I box up my things,
leave the key,
and search the world
for shelter.

Hi! I am an artist, author, and blogger who also happens to have Aspergerβs Syndrome. I have won several awards and honors for my writings and artwork. I suffer from a few severe mental illness and chronic pain conditions (Depression, Anxiety, PTSD, Fibromyalgia, CFS/ME, Ehlers Danlos, Degenerative Disc Disease, etc.), which greatly affects my life and makes me want to advocate for others going through similar things. Other interests of mine include reading, writing, drawing, watching cartoons and movies, collecting toys, hanging out with my family, and annoying my 3 cats.

Very well-written, Maranda. Stated so matter-of-factly, it leaves the reader to fill in the emotions. Since most of us have had similar experiences, that is easy to do! All the best! Cheryl

Yeah, the eviction crisis was actually the inspiration for this one.

I love the poem. Hate the truth in it. Aren’t we better than this? This is not happening in a lot of countries at this time.

That is a really good “idea” depicted in your words. I say “idea” because I can’t think of the right word.

Hugs. Hoping this is a reaction to the world or a reflection on past experiences, at least? Not a present reality right now for you? But, beautiful post…

Yeah, this one isn’t personal, at least not presently. The eviction part was obviously inspired by the crisis we are going through right now and the rest just kind of wrote itself.

Well-crafted poem Maranda! Your words tell of the financial and economic hardship some people are facing. You found an honest photo as well.

Thanks for writing this poignant poem. This will unfortunately become the reality for so many in the coming months, I fear.
