My Favorite Christmas Gift This Year

I got a lot of great gifts (maybe I’ll show more of them to you soon), but today I’m just sharing a couple pics of my favorite gift…my big stuffed Scar from The Lion King:

Merry Christmas Eve Everyone!

christmas-4666370_1280
I am feeling lazy today, but I wanted to take a moment to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas Eve and Christmas Day tomorrow if you celebrate those holidays. I plan to have a quiet holiday here at home with my husband: enjoying our presents, going out for Christmas dinner (probably Chinese since nowhere else is open lol), going to see some Christmas lights, and maybe seeing the new Disney Frozen movie.

We already celebrated with family and friends over the weekend, so now we feel like it is time for just us. In some ways that is nicer than any big party. I hope you all have a wonderful holiday whatever it is you choose to do!

Drawing My Mood

Feeling like this little guy today. Things still not going well with my sick kitty. Feeling sad and overwhelmed. Wishing it wasn’t the holidays when I have family/social responsibilities pressing down on me too. On the plus side, I have been selling a lot of my art and books, but hard to feel too celebratory. Your kind comments and care have helped though. Please know that.

2019 Yule Altar (So Far)

I was excited as soon as Thanksgiving was over to put up my Yule altar. I’m not sure if this is the finished version for the season or not, but I liked the way it looked so far and thought I would share a pic:

My favorite touches this year are the red Reindeer candle holder (from Walmart), and the glittery green pinecone. The silver glittery tree candle holder and the altar cloth are also new (I found both at Goodwill). The little cinnamon broom, jingle bells, and white star are from last year. I also sprinkled an assortment of seasonally colored tiny gemstones and several small healing wands on the table as well.

By the way, for this photo, I loved the way the candles reflected in the darkened window frame, so had to include that in the background!

Yule Colors This Year

For Yule/Christmas this year, I’ve decided to do a black, white, and red color scheme. Here is the first bit of decorating I’ve done:

I’ve always wanted a black Christmas tree, so I bought a two foot one, and then decorated it with white lights, red tinsel/star, and bulbs/ornaments in all three colors. Now I need to find some other things that match to display around it!

I Froze My Butt Off at a Christmas Theme Park!

I’m feeling rough tonight, maybe because last night I went to a little Christmas-themed park and got really cold, which often tends to aggravate my CFS, Fibromyalgia, and Ehlers Danlos joint issues. I had a great time though and wanted to share a few fun pics of the night.

Here is me getting cozy with the Gingerbread Man:

Who doesn’t love a big fire pit when it’s cold out?

Here is some crazy guy climbing the giant Christmas tree (I’m guessing he wasn’t supposed to be doing that):

Is it just me, or are these trees a bit spooky?

Christmas and Family Forgiveness

Yesterday my husband and I traveled over to Indiana to meet my mom and her husband for Christmas dinner. We all decided to meet at a truckstop that is about halfway between us, so that neither of us would have to cook, clean up, or drive too far:

I genuinely had a good time and am glad I’ve been able to spend more time with them recently. Those of you who have followed my blog for a while, may remember that there has been a lot of water under the bridge between my mother and myself over things that happened when I was growing up. She made some huge mistakes, and as is often the case, my sister and I had to pay for many of those choices just as much as she did…maybe more in some cases.

She genuinely seems to be regretful and is trying to make things better between us, so although I am always going to be cautious and protective of myself, it feels good to be able to embrace forgiveness for my own peace of mind and well-being. Forgiveness doesn’t mean that what we went through was ok, or that the damage wasn’t done, but it does mean that it doesn’t have control of my life, my mind, or my heart anymore. I can move on.

I am somewhat a believer in the saying “When we know better, we do better”. Some of us take a long, long time to “know better”, but healing and wisdom are ours once we finally do face the truth.
